Lake Bled, Slovenia to Bratislava, Slovakia

Wednesday 1st August – Friday 3th August, 2018

From Lake Bled we headed to Bratislava. To avoid driving in the worst heat we left early and with a warm but uneventful journey we arrived in Slovakia in good time.

We pulled into a garage at the Slovakian border to get another Vignett (toll sticker) then had to find somewhere to stick it as our windscreen is beginning to fill up.

Having visited Bratislava before we located the campsite easily. We had a booking for a chalet as Ben & Betty were flying out to join us but we couldn’t book a camping pitch, luckily the camping wasn’t full and we got a pitch as it was filling up.

Once parked up Neil realised while trying to hook up the electric he had accidentally during a de-clutter unpacked our European adaptor. Poor Neil in nearly 40° had to walk to a nearby yachting shop to purchase a plug to get our aircon on. Hunter gatherer returned triumphant with an adaptor.

Ben & Betty’s chalet was quite comical but amazing at the same time, literally a wooden shed on the lake side. With 4 beds and electric it was perfect and Lucy declared she was going in her siblings to escape the parents for a bit.

We had a nervous few hours thinking B&B had missed their flight, they were still tracking on the M25 nowhere near Luton with 1.5hours to go till their flight. Amazingly and pure luck they made it and they found their way to our campsite.

A great few days followed. The first day we stayed by the Piesky lake swimming, kayaking and sunbathing. Whilst three of us enjoyed €1 pints of beer Ben opted for the whiskey or rum that seemed to be served in 1/2pint glasses – he’d regret that in the morning.

Day two saw a little swimming a kayaking followed by a trip into town. Bratislava is great, we went up the UFO observation tower just as a thunderstorm struck, the views were amazing till we got ushered back inside. We found a Red Lion pub which during happy hour also sold €1 pints and then had a lovely Italian meal near the river Danube.
