21st July 2016
We had arrived in Hamelin the small hours following a long drive, so we promptly got our heads down and then it was suddenly 7am and it was too hot to sleep – sleep is over rated anyway!
We took a stroll into town where we enjoyed spotting rats (tiles on the floor) and also purchased a bottle of very alcoholic rat killer.
We then purchased an ice cream to watch the bells ringing (the local town attraction) and then headed back to the van to move on to Berlin.
The drive was hot and sweaty and the traffic did us no favours but we saw a lot of Germany and surprising spotted a lot of British cars, no idea where they were all going (we are not sure they were all British people either!)
Our site for the night turned out a good find but was tight to manoeuvre and even the large pitches were hard to park in. The campsite receptionist entertained my humour when he gave me the key to the toilet block and I asked if it was for his house, the poor boy didn’t know if to laugh or cry.
Our evening BBQ felt like feeding time at the zoo as the nearest van to us just sat and stared at us eating. We waved the odd Hallo and even eventually invited them over for food but they then went indoors for lights out.
Once it was cool enough we also went for lights out.

After a few nights of poor sleep we thought surely on this quiet site with air conditioning this night would be a good sleep. We were wrong, at 4am our faulty carbon monoxide alarm decided to rudely go off. It was promptly smashed and batteries removed and we went to sleep, luckily we woke up again and before our alarm.
A leisurely wake up saw us up and ready by 10am for a day trip to Berlin. The lovely campsite receptionist had given Vickey and myself instructions for the train, bus and underground but as he was speaking in German we had no idea what he said. We headed off from site hoping for the best.
By a miracle we found The Reichtstag and The Brandenburg Gate along with a few bars and tat shops, it was hot but fun.
We couldn’t come to Berlin without finding the Hard Rock Cafe so the Berlin Underground would be experienced and what a giggle it was. It would seem not many people take their dogs on the underground so we got a few strange looks.
Luckily we managed to occupy a few tables in the patio area of the Hard Rock Cafe so we ordered our hurricane keeper glasses with the nicest of cocktails. Vickey had a stein at the first bar so after being half cut there she now announced she was full cut following her cocktail 😂
A few train transfers later and a beer shop on route saw us back at the van for a BBQ dinner followed by bed.
